With the upcoming release of the Aerosoft Night Environment, we’ve been looking at how it holds up in SIMMarket SIM Preview. We’ve had a chance to see some of the new features and effects Aerosoft is promising with this project. Our preview is based on a stock Prepar3d Sweden + data package installation with no additional addons or scenery installed. This free-to-download add on from Aerosoft brings night time lighting to your cockpit right down to runway lights, taxi, and beacon lights. This product is available for both FSX and P3Dv2.x. Being a free download, you’re going to need to remove the previous version of ANE before installing. We were a little initiatlly concerned about memory usage since this was a large file to download at 2GB. After installation we noticed an increase of 1,399MB from our current Prepar3d install. In addition, we noticed an increase of 19MB in our sim’s log files after installation indicating an increase in detail to objects and textures around the airport as well as within the city itself. The install was very simple and only required a change in scenery library.ini files to point to your ANE folder. A DVD installer is included with this product, however a traditional installer isn’t necessary for a free download for this add on. The ANE is an add-on for airports with static lights including runway, taxiway, and ground lighting around the grounds. This is very useful when using an approach with no 3D approach lighting from the cockpit in order to reduce workload when trying to gauge your landing. This add on provides runway lights in various intensities from high intensity to low intensity depending on the time of day or night you’re flying at. With the lighting and shadows the ANE provides, you’ll find yourself looking at different parts of the environment and not just things like aircraft and buildings. This product truly integrates more details inside of your sim and makes your sim feel more alive all around you. Flight Simulator X: Aerosoft Night Environment FeaturesFor the most part, this product makes Helsinki in Finland look much better when used with all pre-installed lighting, including runway lights, taxiway lights, and beacon lights. The lighting and additional details really add to the immersion and adds to your environment, especially with the inclusion of the lights on aircraft and buildings which were previously not included with this airport. It looks very consistent with other places in Helsinki. This slideshow requires JavaScript. The ANE makes flying at night a little bit more lively than before by using various street lamps around the airport such as on taxiways and runways to give off some ambient light on the ground. These lights are very useful when approaching or landing at an airport that has no 3D approach lighting such as YLFI. eccc085e13
